Hemet Unified School District’s Facilities, Planning, and Energy team is leading important efforts to reduce energy consumption and ensure responsible stewardship of district resources. As part of the District’s strategic action plan, the team has set a goal to reduce district-wide energy use by 6% during the 2025–2026 school year, supporting the District’s commitment to careful and responsible management of resources.
Through careful analysis and targeted system adjustments, significant progress is already underway. By auditing and tightening HVAC schedules, Hemet High School reduced energy usage by more than 674,000 kWh between July and December 2025, representing an approximate 40% decrease compared to the previous year. Similarly, Little Lake Elementary School reduced energy usage by more than 26,000 kWh, achieving a 10% decrease during the same time period.
Districtwide leadership has also focused on reviewing how and when energy is used, implementing system changes based on data analysis. These efforts have resulted in an estimated 11.7% reduction in energy use so far this school year, saving approximately $91,600 between July and December.
Looking ahead, the team will continue conducting site audits to better understand energy use from plug-in devices and electronics, ensuring future improvements are guided by accurate data and thoughtful planning.
Through these proactive efforts, Hemet Unified is not only reducing costs but also strengthening sustainability practices—ensuring resources are used wisely to support students, staff, and schools across the district.
